The prospective Queensland Youth Detention Class Action will aim to compensate current and former juvenile detainees who were subjected to any of the following:
- Confinement to cell due to lack of custodial staff or ‘night mode’, extended placement in separation rooms, and rolling lockdowns.
- Placement in a cell in a very poor and/or unhygienic state.
- Placement in a cell without access to running water, and/or a working toilet.
- Excessive use of force and restraints.
- Lack of access to services, including education.
- Lack of access to meaningful out of cell time, including recreation.
- Lack of psychosocial supports, including peer, family and/or professional supports.
