Prospective Queensland Youth Detention Class Action

Levitt Robinson Solicitors is considering bringing an action against the State of Queensland and the Department of Youth Justice on behalf of persons who were incarcerated in a youth detention centre of prison before they were 18 years old.

Queensland Youth Detention

The prospective Queensland Youth Detention Class Action will aim to compensate current and former juvenile detainees who were subjected to any of the following:

  • Confinement to cell due to lack of custodial staff or ‘night mode’, extended placement in separation rooms, and rolling lockdowns.
  • Placement in a cell in a very poor and/or unhygienic state.
  • Placement in a cell without access to running water, and/or a working toilet.
  • Excessive use of force and restraints.
  • Lack of access to services, including education.
  • Lack of access to meaningful out of cell time, including recreation.
  • Lack of psychosocial supports, including peer, family and/or professional supports.
